Important Dates to Remember





The programme for the heavily anticipated workshops and practice debates have now been finalised. Make note of these dates, since participation in these workshops and practise debates will prove crucial in relation to your success at the conference.

The preliminary workshops will take place on the 23rd and 30th of January, from 9.30 am to 2.00 pm at Overseas School premises. The workshops are essential for administrative staff as well as delegates.

In turn, the practice debates will take place on 7th, 13th and 27th of February from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm at, again, Overseas premises. Participation in at least two practice debates is mandatory for all delegates.

Lunch, for all five dates specified above, is available for purchase at the Overseas Canteen.

Here’s a summary of the dates:

Workshops

The dates of the conference proper, as you may well know, are 5th, 6th and 7th of March. The times and venues for these dates will differ from one another, and are specified as such, below:

5th: 7.30 am – 5.00 pm at Overseas School

6th: 8.30 am – 5.00 pm at Overseas School

7th: 8.30 am – 7.00 pm at Waters’ Edge

  • Creation of a multilateral framework in combating piracy in the high seas (in addition to the UNCLOS)
  • Strengthening multilateral nuclear disarmament commitment and reviewing the effectiveness of the Non Nuclear proliferation Treaty and its implementation as regards non compliant nations

  • Combating the illicit trafficking of human beings caught in armed conflict
  • Exercising the Responsibility to Protect

Practice Debates

  • Promoting long-term economic stability of developing countries via scientific research
  • Implications of the proliferation of economic and monetary unions with emphasis on trade
  • The question of reform of the International Monetary Fund

  • The role of agriculture in sustainable development
  • Economic and Social hardships faced by member nations during the rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking

General Assembly, Committee Three

Practice Debates

  • The prevention of discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace
  • Combating copyrights infringement and intellectual property stealth at an intergovernmental level
  • The right to adequate housing and the prevention of forced evictions

Conference

  • Assessing and addressing the treatment of women’s rights in the founding of the family, its sustenance and its dissolution.
  • Addressing the vulnerability of refugees to human trafficking

ECOSOC

Practice Debates

  • Revision of the IMF protocol pertaining to voting rights and economic policy
  • Methods by which countries can curb devious practices such as “Unfree” labour, share cropping and debt bondage, which serve as violation of human rights
  • The question of management of resources in relation to sustainable growth

Conference

  • Assessing and Addressing the economic and social impact of human trafficking
  • Addressing the urgent requirement for an effective resolution pertaining to climate change and sustainable development

Security Council

Practice Debates

  • Situation in Sudan
  • The Question of Women & Children with regard to Peace and Security
  • The Question of the Iranian Nuclear Dispute

Conference

  • The Eritrean involvement in Somalia
  • Situation in Afghanistan/Pakistan Region

While submission of Foreign Policy Statements is mandatory for all delegates, such submission must be done only via email before the 13th of February. Hard copies of FPS’s will NOT be entertained. Delegates must take note of the email address relevant to them in accordance to which committee/council they wish to participate in, and email their statements as attachments, their country name as the name of the file.
